Frequently Asked Questions

Why is your salon one chair, and why do you only see one guest at a time?

Our salon has been intentionally designed as a one-chair, one-guest experience. Being a smaller, private space allows us to create a calm, personal environment where your entire appointment is focused on you.

Without the distractions of a busy salon, your consultation, haircut, color, and styling become a much more relaxing and enjoyable experience. It gives us the time and space to truly understand what you want and deliver it without interruption.

Of course, there are always exceptions. If you have additional needs, require support, or simply feel more comfortable bringing someone with you, they are very welcome. For guests under the age of 18, we encourage a parent or guardian to stay throughout the appointment.

Our preference for one-to-one appointments isn't about rules it's about creating the best possible experience.

Why do you ask guests to close their eyes during the blow-dry?

This is something we introduced more than 20 years ago and has become one of the most memorable parts of the withDilan experience.

We invite guests to close their eyes during the blow-dry because it allows them to completely switch off for a few moments. Many describe it as a form of meditation a chance to escape the constant noise of everyday life while enjoying a relaxing head massage and styling experience.

Instead of watching every stage, you simply relax and enjoy the final reveal in the mirror.

It's a small moment of peace that many of our guests look forward to every visit.

Do I have to close my eyes?

Absolutely not.

If you're pregnant, have a medical condition, simply feel uncomfortable, or would just rather keep your eyes open, that's completely fine.

There is never any pressure. The experience is entirely your choice, and we're happy to tailor it to whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

Many guests naturally choose to relax, enjoy the quiet, and take some time for themselves but it's always your decision.

Your backwash has a massage feature. Do I have to use it?

No.

Before every appointment, we'll let you know that our backwash chair includes a built-in body massage function, and it can be switched off instantly if you prefer.

That said, around 90% of our guests choose to enjoy it. Combined with our signature head massage, it creates a wonderfully relaxing experience and is often one of the highlights of the visit.

The choice is always yours.

What drinks do you offer?

We love making our guests feel at home.

We offer a selection of freshly made coffees, including cappuccinos with dairy, oat, or soya milk, as well as a variety of teas, soft drinks, bottled water, and other refreshments.

If you're staying at the hotel, we can also arrange additional beverages through room service where available, making your visit even more enjoyable.

Can hotel guests have their hair done during their stay?

Absolutely.

Many of our guests stay at the hotel and book their appointment as part of their visit to Manchester.

We always recommend booking in advance whenever possible to avoid disappointment.

We also understand that travel doesn't always happen during normal business hours. Whether you have an early morning flight, a late-night event, an important meeting, or an early train to catch, we do our very best to accommodate appointments outside traditional salon hours.

Appointments are often available early in the morning, late in the evening, and, where possible, even during the night. A small additional charge may apply for appointments outside normal working hours.

If we can make it work, we will.

Do you do big, glamorous blow-dries?

Our speciality has always been precision hair cutting, beautiful colour work, and creating hairstyles that suit you and your lifestyle.

We absolutely style and finish every haircut beautifully, but if you're looking for a very large, glamorous, bouncy blow-dry as the main service, we're probably not the right salon.

That's not because we can't do it it's simply because our focus has always been on creating exceptional haircuts, natural movement, and helping people transform their image with hair that looks great every day, not just when they leave the salon.

Helping people begin a new chapter with confidence has always been at the heart of what we do.

Can you come to me instead of me coming to the salon?

Absolutely.

While our home is our private salon at The Lowry Hotel, a significant part of our work also takes place outside the salon.

Whether it's a wedding, engagement, private event, business function, television appearance, fashion shoot, editorial work, or simply because you would prefer to be looked after in your own surroundings, we are happy to travel.

We regularly work throughout the UK, Europe, and internationally, and have accompanied artists, performers, executives, and private clients wherever they need us.

If you're going on tour and would like the consistency of having your own hairdresser with you, we can arrange that too.

Sometimes clients simply need help because another stylist has cancelled at the last minute, or they have an important event with little notice. If we're available, we'll do everything we can to help.

Whatever the occasion, our aim is to make you feel comfortable and look your very best, wherever you are.

Is there an additional charge for travel appointments?

Yes.

Appointments outside the salon are individually quoted depending on the location, travel time, accommodation requirements, and the services required.

Our pricing is designed to be fair and transparent. Whether it's a local visit, a full day booking, or international travel, we'll provide a clear quotation before confirming your appointment.

Can I hire the salon for my own stylist?

Yes.

We regularly welcome guests who wish to use our private salon while working with their own hairdresser, stylist, makeup artist, or creative team.

Whether you're travelling internationally, preparing for an event, or simply prefer the privacy and comfort of our salon, the space can be hired for your exclusive use.

A straightforward day rate or flat hire fee applies, and we'll do everything we can to ensure the salon is ready for you and your team.

Can I borrow hair products or equipment?

If we can help, we will.

Guests are always welcome to purchase our professional products, but if you simply need to borrow something during your stay perhaps some hairspray, styling products, hair clips, brushes, or other essentials we're usually happy to help.

Everything depends on availability at the time, and any items we lend are always at our discretion.

We believe great hospitality is often found in the little things, and if we have something that makes your day a little easier, we'll do our best to provide it.

Why don't you talk very much while you're cutting hair?

People often notice that we're quieter than a traditional salon, and that's quite intentional.

Every appointment begins with a thorough consultation, where we'll discuss your hair, your lifestyle, and exactly what you're hoping to achieve. Once we begin cutting, however, our focus shifts entirely to creating the very best result.

Hair cutting requires concentration, precision, and attention to detail. We believe that by giving the haircut our full attention, we can give you our very best work.

That doesn't mean we don't enjoy a conversation quite the opposite.

If you'd like to chat, we'd love to chat with you. Throughout your appointment there are natural moments to pause, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, ask questions, exchange ideas, or simply have a conversation. Sometimes we'll even take a few minutes just to talk before continuing.

Equally, if this is your one opportunity during the week to enjoy some peace and quiet, we'll happily respect that too. We naturally adapt to each guest and the atmosphere they enjoy.

There are, however, certain moments that we deliberately leave undisturbed.

During your head massage at the backwash, we believe you should simply relax. Likewise, during the blow-dry, we invite many guests to close their eyes and enjoy a few uninterrupted moments of calm before seeing the finished result. During these moments, we generally don't speak unless it's necessary, allowing you to fully enjoy the experience.

Over more than 30 years of hairdressing, we've learned that one of the greatest luxuries we can offer is knowing when to talk, when to listen, and when to simply let the moment be.

Whatever conversations take place in our salon remain completely confidential. We listen, we offer advice when asked, and above all, we never judge.

Your appointment is your time, and we want it to feel exactly the way you need it to.
